Welcome to Bringing History Home!

The 2020-21 school year with History At Our House is entitled “America and the World We Live In” with a wide range of American and World History topics covered in the core curriculum–including Canada & Mexico–and a government class for high school. Since 2001, school districts have adopted Bringing History Home to engage children in rigorous history explorations.Bringing History Home (BHH) instructional units sequentially develop student skills and knowledge in history across the K-5 grade levels. Inspired by their students' learning, BHH teachers have become committed advocates for history education in elementary schools. Consequently, BHH is now the K-5 social studies centerpiece in eight Iowa school districts, and the project teaching strategies have been adopted by districts in at least six other states.

In addition to BHH lesson plans and teaching strategies, on our website you will find bibliographies of selected children's history books, links to selected internet resources, essays on using BHH strategies in college classrooms, and blogs on various history education topics.

Bringing History Home has been funded by four U.S. Department of Education Teaching American History grants. It is a non-profit project entirely supported by public funding, and the BHH-created materials are free for non-profit educational use.
