The concentration of N,N-dimethylglycine (DMG) was increased approximately 100-fold in serum and 20-fold in urine. The presence of DMG as a storage product was confirmed by use of NMR spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The high concentration of DMG was caused by a deficiency of the enzyme dimethylglycine dehydrogenase. DMG (dimethylglycine) is a dimethylated derivative of the simple amino acid glycine. Dimethylglycine (DMG) is a relatively small molecule with an amazing power to change and improve health, well-being, and vitality in a person's life.
A natural substance found in certain foods like meat (liver), beans, seeds, and grains, DMG is an intermediary metabolite—meaning it is rapidly broken down into other useful substances your body requires. DMG, which affects many metabolic pathways within the cell, is also produced in small amounts by humans and animals. Officially named N, N-Dimethylglycine, DMG is related to the amino acid, glycine, whose two hydrogen atoms have been replaced with methyl (CH3) groups on its nitrogen atom. DMG is truly an astounding nutritional supplement that I find myself recommending to everyone. I am sorry that I had not looked into DMG before, even though I took some briefly in the 1980's. The reason I recommended it for everyone is that it tends to bring the whole system in to balance, so reducing the manifestation of diseases and health issues. Combined with its action of buffering stress as an extremely effective adaptogen, it can be useful even for those with adrenal fatigue and/or delicate health who struggle to find a therapy they can adapt to.
